Debbie Bruister, Ackerman Elementary School gifted teacher, requested Mr. Black and his Construction/Carpentry students to construct a xylophone for the “learning track” at AES.  Construction/Carpentry students constructed the xylophone using metal pipes and treated lumber. With the specifications from the blueprint as a guideline, the pipes were cut at different lengths to make the proper tone. Measuring, cutting, and problem solving skills were necessary for the students to complete the project. A group of students from Mr. Black’s 1st block construction class installed the xylophone. The 6th grade gifted students watched and even assisted with the installation of the xylophone at the track.
